Comprehensive Campaign in Kurdistan Region to Dispose of Expired Medicines and Medical Waste in an Environmentally Safe Manner
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Government institutions in the Kurdistan Region have initiated a far-reaching campaign aimed at the safe disposal of expired medicines and medical waste, ensuring that this process has no adverse effects on the environment or public health.
Dr. Dilovan Mohammed, the Director-General of Erbil Health Department, emphasized the importance of this campaign, stating, "To protect our citizens from potential harm and to preserve public health, we are now implementing a more scientific and separate disposal method for expired medicines and various general goods."
He further elaborated, "The success of this effort relies on the cooperation of our citizens with the relevant authorities."
Dr. Arezu Hassan, responsible for infection control at the Erbil Health Department, detailed the two methods available for citizens to dispose of expired medicines. She said, "The first method involves handing over these medicines to municipal employees, who will ensure their disposal adheres to scientific and health standards."
Dr. Arezu continued, "The second method entails transporting expired medicines to local health centers for subsequent delivery to the Erbil Municipality. There, these medicines will be collected and disposed of in a professional and scientifically approved manner."
