Kurdistan Leaders Meet Estonian Defense Minister to Fight Terrorism
Erbil - On Wednesday, 2 August 2023, President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) welcomed Estonian Defense Minister, Mr. Hanno Pevkur, to Erbil. The visit highlighted Estonia's ongoing support to the Kurdistan Region's forces within the framework of the international coalition against ISIS, with a focus on combating terrorism and ISIS networks.
In their meetings, both sides underscored the significance of continued cooperation and joint coordination to confront the threat of terrorism and ensure the eradication of ISIS, which remains a serious concern for security and stability in the wider region.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region's sincere gratitude for Estonia's participation and contributions to the international coalition against ISIS, emphasizing the importance of Estonia's continuous support to the Peshmerga forces. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for Estonia's unwavering commitment as part of The Global Coalition against Daesh.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations between Estonia and the Kurdistan Region, with particular attention to extending support to the Peshmerga forces in their fight against terrorism and maintaining peace and security in the region. Minister Hanno Pevkur reaffirmed Estonia's dedication to increasing security cooperation and coordination, pledging ongoing support to the Peshmerga forces.
The leaders also addressed the developments in Iraq and the wider region, agreeing on the need for sustained efforts in combating the Islamic State threat. The meetings concluded with a shared determination to continue the mission of the international coalition against ISIS, united in their commitment to ensuring regional security and stability.
