The foreign minister of Ukraine is scheduled to travel to Baghdad

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced that the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, is scheduled to visit Baghdad on Monday to enhance bilateral relations between Iraq and Ukraine.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss ways of strengthening the relationship between the two countries and to consult on various regional and international issues. During the visit, Kuleba will meet with the Iraqi Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The visit comes a week after a phone conversation between the Ukrainian President and the Iraqi Prime Minister in which they emphasized the need for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and agreed to increase cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

Despite Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Iraq has remained neutral in the conflict and has not publicly criticized Moscow.

In March 2022, Iraq abstained from voting against Russia's invasion of Ukraine in a United Nations resolution, indicating its intention to maintain its relations with Moscow.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister had earlier called for a ceasefire in Ukraine during a joint press conference in Baghdad with his Russian counterpart in February, stating that Iraq's position on wars is clear due to the suffering of the Iraqi people during years of conflict.
