Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria to Meet in Moscow in May
In a recent announcement, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has revealed that a meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria is likely to take place in Moscow in early May.
The primary objective of the meeting is to revive the political process in Syria, promote lasting stability and peace, fight against terrorism, and guarantee Syria's border and territorial integrity. Additionally, the four ministers may also prepare for a possible leaders' summit.
Cavusoglu further stated that Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will be visiting Turkey later this week to discuss the possibility of raising diplomatic relations between the two countries to the highest level "as soon as possible."
Moving on to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Cavusoglu commented that both sides are preparing for bigger offensives. However, Turkey is working towards a diplomatic solution to the conflict and aims to bring the two sides to the negotiating table.
Regarding the normalization process with Armenia, Cavusoglu suggested that it may not happen in the near future, and more steps need to be taken first.
Cavusoglu emphasized the need to prioritize cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean with Greece and maintain a positive atmosphere.
The upcoming meeting between the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria, as well as the possible leaders' summit, could prove to be significant in promoting stability and peace in Syria.
Meanwhile, the visit of the Egyptian foreign minister is expected to further strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.
As Turkey works towards a diplomatic solution to the Russia-Ukraine war and looks to improve relations with Armenia, the emphasis on cooperation with Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean remains a top priority.
