Iraqi and Kurdistan governments sign oil and gas agreement in Baghdad meeting

In a significant development for Iraq's oil and gas industry, the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) signed an agreement on Tuesday to resolve long-standing disputes over the sector. The signing took place during a meeting between KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Baghdad, where Barzani is currently visiting to discuss outstanding issues between the two sides.

Barzani arrived in the capital earlier today with a high-level government delegation to hold talks on resolving the issues between Erbil and Baghdad, particularly the final stages of the oil agreement and resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan region.

Upon his arrival, the KRG prime minister was received at the airport by Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, along with Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Shawan Mohamed Taha Abdullah, Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, Bangen Rekani, and Fares Issa, head of the KRG Representation in Baghdad.

The agreement comes at a time of heightened tensions between the two sides over issues such as oil revenue sharing and the status of disputed territories. The successful negotiation and signing of the agreement are likely to lead to a significant improvement in relations between the two governments and a boost to the country's oil and gas industry.
