Kurdistan Region's Ninth Cabinet Continues Restructuring Peshmerga, Forms Defense Committee to Create Unified National Force
The Kurdistan Region's Ninth Cabinet is continuing its efforts to restructure the Peshmerga and create a unified national force. The latest move is the formation of a Defence Committee at the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs' General Directorate of Individuals and Volunteers, which is responsible for conducting interviews, medical assessments, personal classification, and documentation.
The Committee has emphasized the need to follow law number 38 of 2007 in the treatment of Peshmerga ranks, and notes that the age of Peshmerga members must comply with military laws. As a result of the restructuring process, individuals whose age is appropriate for military service from brigades 17, 18, 19, 21, and 22, units 70 and 80, have been transferred to the Ministry, along with brigades 23, 24, 26, and 28 of the Peshmerga ground forces, following a full evaluation of their documents.
The transfer process for brigade 27 is currently 70% complete, while brigade 20 is awaiting financial entitlements from the Federal Government before it can be restructured as a joint brigade.
In another development, the Kurdistan Region's Ninth Cabinet has appointed ten volunteer students from the Baghdad Aviation College to join the Iraqi Air Force's course 80, highlighting the region's commitment to contributing to Iraq's security and defense.
The restructuring of the Peshmerga is a significant step towards creating a more efficient and effective military force in the Kurdistan Region. The move is also aimed at promoting unity and cooperation among different Peshmerga units, as well as improving the overall security situation in the region.
The Kurdistan Region's Ninth Cabinet is expected to continue its efforts to restructure the Peshmerga and strengthen the region's military capabilities, in cooperation with the Federal Government and other regional and international partners.
