President Nechirvan Barzani and UK Ambassador discuss developments in Iraq
President Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Mark Bryson-Richardson, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Iraq and his accompanying delegation, in Erbil today.
The meeting focused on the developments in Iraq’s political arena, the status of the political process in the country, the latest parliamentary elections and the results, the first session of Iraq’s Council of Representatives, the election of the Presidency of the Council of Representatives with the subsequent developments, and the importance of the support of international community to the political process in Iraq.
The President shared his views on the situation and status of Iraq, and underlined that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region need peace and stability to help and support a ground plan, which serves the interests of all communities in the country.
Strengthening Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s bilateral relations with the United Kingdom were reaffirmed, with the UK delegation expressing appreciation to President Nechirvan Barzani for consolidating relations with the United Kingdom. Discussions also covered the relations of the Kurdistan Region with the neighboring countries.
The meeting also discussed the status and internal developments in the Kurdistan Region and the relations among political parties, highlighting the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region and the draft of the constitution.
On this subject, the President emphasized that the Kurdistan Region is committed to holding the elections on time and that the constitution should have the approval of all and bring everyone together, and for that purpose there should be coordination with Baghdad.
