Iraq: 250 thousand security personnel will participate in protecting elections
On Monday, the Joint Operations Command in Iraq confirmed that 250,000 security personnel will participate in protecting the elections, noting that the roads will be open and there will be no curfew.
The command pointed out that the days of the 8th, 9th and 10th of this month will witness an intense security deployment, explaining that "the security forces have entered a state of maximum alert, and that the anti-terrorist forces and the army's special forces will be ready for any emergency."
In the meantime, the Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed that it "will not leave the electoral cards that were not received by the voters permitted in the registration centers."
Commission spokeswoman Jumana Al-Ghalai said that there is a special plan in this regard that will be announced soon. Regarding the international observers, she pointed out that their number reached 509.
Earlier in the day, the Arab League announced its participation in monitoring the Iraqi elections in response to the invitation it received from the Independent High Electoral Commission.
Iraqi President Barham Salih said that "the October elections are pivotal and represent a turning point in Iraq."
During his visit to the headquarters of the Independent High Electoral Commission, he added that "the polling day will be the day to move towards reform," stressing that "the procedures of the Commission and the security services are exceptional to prevent fraud."
