PM Barzani to announce independent administration of Zakho

The ceremony to announce the independent administration of Zakho will be held in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The announcement ceremony of the independent Zakho administration will be held today, Monday, in Zakho, in the presence of Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, decided to make Soran and Zakho two independent administrations on July 28, 2021, and the relevant ministries were also instructed to implement the measures.

Zakho is located in the northern part of Dohuk Governorate, and it has become a region since 1864, covering an area of 1,209 square kilometers and a population of more than 300,000 people, in addition to 90,000 refugees and displaced persons.

Zakho district consists of cities (Batefa, Daharkar and Rizgari), it includes 187 villages on the borders of the district, 92 villages were rehabilitated, and 95 villages were not rehabilitated due to the wars of the PKK and Turkey.

Zakho has an important economic location, and the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing on the border of Zakho connects the Kurdistan Region with Turkey, and is an important trade route for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Zakho has many important historical sites, of which, according to the official information of the Duhok Historic Site, 159 were identified as historical sites in the region, the most important of which are Delal Bridge, Kali Zakho, Kali Qubad Pasha, and Kashta Place.
