The Prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government receives Mr. Joseph Borrell, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, and his accompanying delegation, in Erbil on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, stressed the importance of the Kurdistan Region's position as a factor of stability in the region, as well as the continuation of EU cooperation and coordination for the Kurdistan Region, especially in the war on terror.

While praising the EU's friendly stance in supporting the Kurdistan Region, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the role of EU observer teams in the upcoming Iraqi elections, especially in the disputed areas, in order to ensure a free and fair election.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need for the Iraqi constitution to be implemented and for equality, justice and real partnership to be the basis for a healthy governance in Iraq.

The development of economic relations between the Kurdistan Region and the European Union and the reform of the ninth cabinet, the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, and the situation of refugees and displaced in the Kurdistan Region were among the other topics of the meeting.
