President Masoud Barzani received Mr. Joseph Borrell, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, and his accompanying delegation, in Erbil on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy expressed his appreciation for the role of President Barzani in the history of the struggle of the people of Kurdistan to reach freedom, declaring that he is aware of the struggle waged by the people of Kurdistan. He stressed that the European Union cares greatly about safety, freedom and a happy life for the people of Kurdistan. He also reiterated its support for the Kurdistan people.

For his part, President Barzani expressed his thanks to the international coalition, which was supportive in the war against terrorists and helped the people of Kurdistan, stressing that any nation has the will to sacrifice, the help of friends and the coalition has a good effect.

As for the threats of ISIS terrorists, it was another focus in the meeting in which President Barzani explained the reasons for the emergence of ISIS to the guest delegation, stressing that the threats of terrorism and ISIS still remain because the reasons for the emergence of ISIS still exist and have not been addressed so far.

President Barzani also said that the rich culture of coexistence within the Kurdistan people was an obstacle to the infiltration of terrorists and their gaining a foothold within the ranks of our people.

During the same meeting, the spotlight was shed on the upcoming Iraqi elections, and the two sides expressed their hope that the elections would be fair and without impurities, and that their results would be a reason for change and stability and the fulfillment of the desires of citizens.
