President Barzani's message on the seventh anniversary of the Sinjar genocide

President Masoud Barzani, on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the Sinjar genocide, said that Sinjar was a deep wound in the body of the people of Kurdistan and an unforgettable pain in Kurdistan.

In the name of of Allah the Merciful

Sinjar is a deep wound in the body of the people of Kurdistan, and what ISIS terrorists did against our Yazidi brothers and sisters seven years ago now is an unforgettable pain in Kurdistan.

We know very well that during the terrorist attacks on Kurdistan, the Yazidis were subjected to the hatred and recklessness of the perpetrators of ISIS and genocide because of their Kurdishness and religious beliefs.

The crimes committed by ISIS in the Sinjar region were an extension of the chain of genocide, massacres and crimes committed throughout history against the people of Kurdistan.

On the seventh anniversary of the tragedy, we send our greetings to the souls of the martyrs and victims of crime, and we honor and glorify the heroic Peshmerga who gave their blood for the liberation of Mount Sinjar and the city of Sinjar, placing the head of the savage ISIS under the feet of our brothers and sisters and suppressing the terrorists.

It is very unfortunate that after seven years of disasters, Sinjar is still in the hands of a group of forces and militants, who have nothing to do with the interests of Sinjar and the Yazidis. They also prevented the return of the people and the reconstruction of Sinjar.

Here I repeat to my Yazidi brothers and sisters that I have done my best to satisfy their demands and their pain. I urge them to be united and optimistic within themselves and assure them that anything based on oppression and imposition will eventually come to an end and that the current abnormal and illegal situation in Sinjar will not continue. Our Yazidi brothers and sisters should proudly return home.

Masoud Barzani
