PM Barzani's message on the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide
Today marks the seventh anniversary of the brutal ISIS terrorist attack on the Yazidi brothers and sisters in and around Sinjar, which resulted in massacre, displacement and loss of thousands of residents.
The genocide of the Yazidis is a heinous crime that will always remain in the conscience of the people of Kurdistan and humanity, so we need to continue to honor and glorify the victims of that massacre. We also express our deep gratitude to the victims of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces for saving Sinjar under the leadership of President Masoud Barzani.
On this sad anniversary, we reiterate that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will continue its efforts to return the displaced Yazidi brothers and sisters and work with the federal government and the international community, towards the rehabilitation of Sinjar and its neighbours.
We also stress the importance of implementing the Sinjar Agreement and normalizing the situation in Sinjar to pave the way for the proud return of refugees to their homeland and the area to be rehabilitated.
At the same time, we will intensify our efforts to pursue ISIS perpetrators and collaborators, and to reveal the fate of the missing.
We salute the martyrs and victims of the Sinjar massacre and all the martyrs of Kurdistan.
Masrour Barzani
Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government
