5 policemen killed in ISIS attack in Kirkuk
Members of the terrorist organization ISIS launched two consecutive attacks on a point belonging to the federal police forces, in Daquq district of Kirkuk governorate, killing 5 people and wounding 3 others.
The Kurdish media network, Rudaw, reported that the two attacks took place last Thursday night, at around 11 pm.
A source from Daquq police station said that "at 10:30 pm, ISIS affiliated elements destroyed the surveillance cameras of the Federal Police forces with their snipers and withdrew, so that a larger group launched a second attack at 11 pm on a point belonging to the 20th Brigade, the 5th Division of the Federal police forces.
According to the source, the confrontations between the Federal Police forces and ISIS members lasted for 45 minutes, resulting in the death of 5 Federal Police personnel and the injury of 3 others.
The injured were transferred to Daquq Hospital for treatment, and their condition is stable, according to the source.
A force of the Federal Police forces headed to the site of the event to support the 20th Brigade, while the perpetrators fled to the attack without causing any casualties.
Iraq declared victory over the terrorist organization ISIS in 2017, by regaining its entire territory, but in recent months, the frequency of attacks by suspected militants of the organization has increased, especially in the area between Kirkuk, Salah al-Din and Diyala, known as the "Triangle of Death".
ISIS still maintains sleeper cells scattered throughout the country, and has gradually begun to return to its old method of launching lightning attacks on the guerrilla style it used to follow before 2014.
