Erdogan: NATO without Turkey is doomed to collapse

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Turkey's role in NATO, expressing his confidence that NATO, in isolation from Turkey, is doomed to collapse.

Erdogan commented in a televised speech on the results of the NATO summit that took place in Brussels on June 14. He said that without Turkey, it will be difficult for the alliance to maintain its strength and even its survival. Turkey is fully implementing its obligations to the Alliance and recognizes the importance of NATO's survival, even though it has found itself left alone at a time when it most needed support.

Erdogan added that in regional conflicts, from Iraq to Syria and from Palestine to Libya, NATO failed to show the strength of will expected of it.

Erdogan points out that the capital, Ankara, reiterated during the NATO summit in Brussels that “the saying that distinguishes between bad terrorists and good terrorists is wrong,” adding that he expects from NATO a “stronger and more sincere” contribution to curb the activities of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which is banned in Turkey, on the southern border of his country.
