Kurdistan Region President visits KDP Branch in Baghdad
On the second day of his visit to Baghdad, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani visited the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), which was vandalized and burnt after it was attacked by an armed group last October. The President was received by the officials and members of the KDP Fifth Branch.
During a press statement, President Nechirvan Barzani said: “We came here today with the head of the Branch, the administration and its members, where unfortunately this incident took place. We came today to the Branch to visit friends, and we confirmed our support for them that we will do what we can, God willing, to support them, and we hope that the law will take its course with the legal complaint they (the Branch) have issued. We hope that the law will prevail, and that the people who burnt this headquarter will be brought to trial.”
When answering a question about the outcome of his visit and his meetings with senior Iraqi officials in Baghdad, President Nechirvan Barzani stated: “I believe that the visit to Baghdad, and meeting with officials in Baghdad, is a very good step, and I think it is necessary for these contacts to continue. After the approval of the budget bill, we deemed it necessary to make this visit to Baghdad, to thank the blocs personally and to try to solve other problems as well, because the Region’s problem with Baghdad is not only related to the budget issues, but also to the issue of Article 140, the issue of Kirkuk, the issue of Shingal and other regions. What matters is the need to work together in order to find solutions to all the problems that exist today between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. We believe that, solving these problems will lead to more political stability and security in Iraq. Progress in this direction will be in the interest of the Kurdistan Region and all of Iraq.”
