Prominent Kurdish Doctor Dies of COVID-19 in Erbil: Health Ministry
ERBIL - The coronavirus on Tuesday evening claimed the life of a prominent Kurdish doctor in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, the Health Ministry has confirmed.

Health Minister Saman Barzinji said in a statement that Dr. Tayeb Sabir, a general surgeon doctor and a university professor at the College of Medicine, lost his life due to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The renowned doctor was also in charge of programs granting scholarships by the Arab Board, and a doctor at Rizgary Teaching Hospital in Erbil.

"He was a a compassionate person who performed thousands of surgeries, treated patients, benefited other doctors from his expertise," Barzinji added.

Dr. Sabir also worked as an international expert in the UK to grant medical specialization to international medicine students at the British Royal College, the Kurdish minister concluded.
