ERBIL - A total of 6,423 new coronavirus cases were detected across Iraq on Monday, the country's health ministry reported.

The coronavirus tally with the new reports has now spiked to 879,991, the ministry said in a statement, also reporting 39 new fatalities related to COVID-19 within the past day.

However, there were also 5,664 new recoveries during the same day.

Out of the total infections confirmed since the outbreak of the novel virus, at least 784,199 people have recovered while 14,502 others died.

The cases also include those registered in the Kurdistan Region where the pandemic situation, similarly to other parts of Iraq, has dramatically deteriorated.
