ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Friday spoke over the phone with Nassar Rubaye, the head of the Sadrist Movement's Political Committee, to discuss the recent efforts which led to the approval of the 2021 federal budget law of Iraq.

“The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the Sadrist Movement’s leadership and support in helping pass the 2021 federal budget bill,” reads a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

“He shared his hope that this will serve as a constructive step forward towards the resolution of the disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq, based on the constitution,” the Kurdish leader said.

Earlier the day, PM Barzani held separate phone calls with several Iraqi political leaders from different factions to also thank them for the support of the share of the Kurdistan Region in the budget law.

“The Prime Minister thanked the political leaders for their efforts in passing the 2021 federal budget bill and hoped this would serve as a constructive step forward towards resolving disputes between the federal and regional governments, and based on the constitution,” the KRG said in a separate statement.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani also spoke to his counterpart, Federal Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mohammed Al-Halbusi, to personally thank them for their work in passing the critical budget bill, and for their support in including clauses specific to the agreements between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq.
