Coalition Jets Destroy 12 IS Hideouts in Qarachoq Mountain
Commander of Peshmerga forces in Sector 6 (Gwer-Makhmour Front), Sirwan Barzani, told Kurdistan 24 that 12 locations believed to have been used by IS militants to hide in the mountainous areas around Makhmour, were destroyed within the past 12 hours.
The operation had began earlier on Thursday, 11th March, to leave no safe space for the IS insurgents to regroup and organize terrorist activities.
Barzani pointed out that the airstrikes were carried out in cooperation with the Peshmerga forces and the joint operations room of Erbil and Baghdad armed forces.
Commenting on the joint operations to defeat IS, Coalition Spokesperson Wayne Marotto wrote on Twitter that the Peshmerga and Coalition forces work towards keeping the region free from IS.
“The Coalition remain committed to strengthen our partnership with the Peshmerga thru increasing the effectiveness of capacity building programs to deter Daesh threat and help bring stability to the region,” Marotto added.
