Kurdistan to Receive More COVID-19 Vaccines: PM Barzani
ERBIL - The Kurdistan Region will receive "many more" coronavirus vaccines in the near future, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Thursday after the first vaccination was administered in the region.

During a televised event in Erbil on Thursday, Goran Osman was vaccinated as the first healthcare worker in the Kurdistan Region.

PM Barzani wrote on Twitter that "our recovery from COVID-19 starts today, with the first vaccine administered," adding that "many more will arrive soon – directly to Kurdistan and through Baghdad."

Earlier on Tuesday, the Kurdistan Region received the first shipment of China's COVID-19 vaccines, which was approved by the autonomous region's Health Ministry the following day.

However, it is not clear yet whether the Kurdistan Region will purchase more vaccines from China or other countries while Iraq has already planned to import one million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine soon.
