ERBIL — A total of 237 people tested positive for COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, Kurdistan Region’s Health Ministry said on Sunday, making it the highest daily infection rate since 22nd December 2020.

The spike comes after weeks of successful containment of the spread and keeping the daily infections under 100.

According to a report from the ministry, the total number of registered cases since the onset of the disease in Kurdistan now stands just below 109,000, from which 103,514 have already recovered.

The ministry also confirmed 83 recoveries within the past 24 hours, with zero fatalities.

The virus has so far claimed 3,519 lives in the Kurdistan Region.

Including the cases announced today, there are 1,921 active cases now in the provinces of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok. Halabja remains free of the virus for now.
