ERBIL - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday received US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller in Erbil, discussing the latest security affairs and the Iraqi elections.

"Pleased to receive the US ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller today. We discussed the situation in Iraq and further development of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States," Barzani said in a statement on his Facebook feed.

According to the statement, Tueller expressed his country's support to the Kurdistan Region in confronting terrorism, particularly after "the recent terrorist attack in Erbil."

"We highlighted the ongoing investigations in cooperation with the coalition forces and the federal government to bring culprits to justice," the statement added.

The Kurdish premier said that he conveyed KRG’s gratitude to the US and Global Coalition forces for their support, emphasizing that the Kurdistan Region will remain a factor of regional security and stability.

The pair further exchanged views on the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, stressing on the need to ensure everyone will have the right to a fair and transparent vote.

"On the upcoming Iraqi elections, I’m concerned about the recent patterns in the disputed territories. The KRG wants to see conditions that allow everyone’s right to vote and campaign in fair, transparent and competitive elections," PM Barzani wrote on Twitter.
