KRG Delegation to Return to Baghdad for Budget Talks
ERBIL — The negotiating team of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will return to Baghdad on Tuesday to resume the talks over the 2021 budget.

BasNews has learned that there are several options put on the table by Erbil and Baghdad, and the new round of the talks will consider the best option for both sides.

However, the KRG insists on the agreement that the regional and federal governments have already agreed upon and it is included in the government-proposed budget bill.

Erbil and Baghdad have so far made multiple budget agreements since the previous cabinets. However, the agreements were repeatedly violated by the Iraqi side which hopes to limit Kurdistan Region’s access to the national budget as a means of political pressure, Kurdish officials believe.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has reaffirmed on different occasions that Erbil is looking for a fair deal within the framework of the Iraqi Constitution.
