UK Foreign Secretary Says Attack on Erbil “Outrageous and Unacceptable”
“Iraqis won’t forgive militias putting Iraq’s stability at risk,” the top British diplomate wrote in a statement on Twitter.
He also reiterated his country’s stance with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Iraq’s Mustafa al-Kadhimi “to hold perpetrators to account”.
British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey condemned the attack in a separate statement earlier today, expressing support for Erbil-Baghdad’s joint investigation.
“Coalition forces are here in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government, in order to fight Daesh. These attacks terrorise civilians, destabilise Iraq, and undermine the fight against Daesh,” Hickey said, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (IS).
