UN Encourages Erbil and Baghdad to Continue Dialogue
ERBIL — The Special Representative of United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, on Sunday met with Kurdish prominent leader and the president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, to reiterate that the UN encourages Erbil and Baghdad to continue the dialogue on a fair budgetary solution.

“The UN special envoy in Iraq emphasized that the United Nations encourages the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government of Iraq to continue dialogue and the positive atmosphere in order to make the negotiations successful and reach a suitable solution to their disputes,” reads a statement from Barzani Headquarters.

Barzani, in return, expressed his support for the talks based on the Iraqi Constitution.

“He emphasized that many of the current issues would have not occurred if the Constitution was fully implemented,” the statement cited the Kurdish leader.

The two officials also exchanged views on the latest political, security, and economic situations in Iraq and Kurdistan, as well as the obstacles before the implementation of the Sinjar agreement.
