IS Social Media Manager Arrested in Kirkuk: Iraqi Police
ERBIL — Iraqi federal police on Sunday arrested a member of the Islamic State (IS) known to be a key manager of the extremist groups social media accounts.

The man was arrested during an operation carried out by military intelligence in Zab subdistrict of Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, said Hawija Chief of Police Brig. Gen. Fattah Mahmoud.

“The terrorist had returned from Turkey recently. He was managing the social media accounts affiliated with the terrorist IS,” Mahmoud explained in a statement made to BasNews.

“The terrorist was one of those who facilitated the escape of IS militants to Turkey in the past few years,” he added.

More than three years since Iraq has declared “full victory” against the Islamic State, the country is still struggling with the constant terrorist attacks across the northern and western provinces as well as the capital Baghdad.

On 21st January, a twin suicide bombing killed 32 civilians and injured more than 100 in a busy marketplace in central Baghdad. IS claimed responsibility for the attack a day later.
