Masrour Barzani Discusses Greater Trade, Energy Ties with Turkey
ERBIL - Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council, Masrour Barzani, received on Wednesday a Turkish delegation, led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sedat Onal, for talks on the the greater trade and energy ties between Erbil and Ankara, Barzani's office said in a readout.

During the meeting, the Kurdish top security official urged Turkey to "play a stronger role" in the reconstruction of the areas liberated from the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq.

They further exchanged views on the economic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey, both sides hoping for strengthening the ties between Erbil and Ankara, the statement added.

"Both sides expressed their readiness to increase bilateral trade and investment, particularly in energy and transportation sectors," reads the press release.

The pair additionally shed light on the political and security developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, including the efforts to establish a new cabinet in Erbil and the situation in the disputed Kurdish territories.

"In that regard, Chancellor Barzani stressed the importance of normalizing the areas in ways that allow locals to manage their security and in coordination between KRG and the Federal Government."
