ERBIL — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is set to pay an official visit to Iraq next Monday, 11th March, in hopes of building stronger economic ties with the neighboring country while under pressure by US sanctions.

Rouhani will be accompanied by a large delegation of high-ranking officials while visiting Baghdad, Iranian media reported.

Prior to his trip, Rouhani hosted Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi in Tehran. He told Halbousi that the Iranian government was determined to establish close and brotherly cooperation with neighboring Iraq.

“Iran is ready to expand cooperation (with Iraq) in the areas of economy and infrastructure,” he added.
