ERBIL - Chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), Masrour Barzani, has stressed the significance of "reconciliation" and coordination between Erbil and Baghdad to give the local committees a better chance to manage their security affairs.

The Kurdish top security official made the remarks during a meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Conflict and Stabilization Operations Denise Natali in Erbil on Thursday for talks on the latest security developments in Nineveh Plains, Kirkuk, and Sinjar, according to a readout by Barzani's office.

"Both sides stressed the need to normalize the areas, continue the stabilization efforts and promote the safe and dignified return of displaced families," according to the readout.

Concerning the Islamic State (IS), the pair pointed out that the militant group's ideology is still the main threat in the country

"On the disputed territories, Chancellor Barzani and Assistant Secretary Natali underscored their shared support for joint security mechanisms between Peshmerga Forces and Iraqi Security Forces."
