ERBIL - The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is expected to hand over 250 more Islamic State (IS) detainees to Iraq in the upcoming hours, a military expert said on Tuesday.

The extradition will be part of a previous agreement between the US-backed Kurdish forces and Baghdad in this regard, Safan al-A'sam told al-Maalomah news agency.

Al-A'sam further said that the majority of the new batch of the militants are Iraqi nationals, while hundreds more are among the extremists who are losing the last enclave in eastern Syria.

He said about 150 insurgents have surrendered to the SDF in the past few hours.

Many IS members, after the group was declared defeated in Iraq in late 2017, fled to neighboring Syria.
