Iraq to Deploy New Forces to Khanaqin: Official
ERBIL - Iraq will deploy new forces to the disputed Kurdish town of Khanaqin next week, a Kurdish official said on Sunday.

The head of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) branch in Khanaqin, Sheikh Ja'afar Mustafa, explained to BasNews that the new troops are commanded by the Ministry of Interior to replace the other forces in the area.

He noted that the deployment was expected to happen last week, but that the move was delayed for next week.

The official, in the meantime, pointed out that the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group is still a threat in the region.

"Daesh is still a threat in the area. They usually appear in groups of 10 or 20," Mustafa said.

However, the people of the area want the Peshmerga fighters in coordination with the international coalition forces to rule the region.
