Peshmerga, Iraqi Defense Ministries Discuss Situation in Disputed Areas
ERBIL - Delegations from the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga Ministry and Iraq Ministry of Defense met on Monday in Erbil for talks on the security affairs in the disputed areas.

During the meeting, officials underlined the latest developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region, including the changes in the security condition in the disputed territories, according to a joint statement by the delegates, as cited by Kurdistan 24.

Both sides have designated sub-committees to hold talks next week on the issue in hopes of making progress in this regard, Jamal Mohammed, the Peshmerga Chief of Staff, told Kurdistan 24.

In retaliation to an independence referendum held by the Kurdistan Region, the Iraqi army and pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias entered the disputed Kurdish territories in a military incursion on October 16, 2017 and forced the Peshmerga fighters out of the region.
