Three Child Migrants from Kurdistan Drowned En Route to Europe
ERBIL — At least three children from Kurdistan Region died after their boat capsized in the waters between Turkey and Greece, refugee organization confirmed.

The young victims were en route with their families to Europe as part of the influx of migrants hoping a better future in the West.

Ari Jalal, head of Lutka Organization for IDP and Refugee Affairs, confirmed to BasNews that all the victims were from Erbil.

The rest of migrants on board were rescued by Greek guards, Jalal pointed out.

Following the emergence of Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq, hundreds of thousands of people left their hometowns to risk their lives in hopes of finding a new life mainly in western Europe.

Despite relative safety in Kurdistan Region, thousands of Kurds also joined the influx as the region was experiencing harsh economic crisis at the wake of costly wars against terrorism and financial disputes with the central government of Iraq.
