Iraq Summons Turkish Ambassador over Deadly Clash on Kurdistan Border
ERBIL — Iraq’s foreign ministry says it has summoned the Turkish ambassador in the country over the Turkish army’s clash with civilians in Kurdistan Region’s Sheladize.

Earlier on Saturday, several dozens of locals gathered in the border village of Sheladize to protest against continued Turkish airstrikes that killed four people last week. The angry crowd then moved towards a Turkish military base in the area.

However, they clashed with the Turkish forces who reportedly opened fire at the civilians before leaving the base.

At least one teenager was killed in the clash with ten other people wounded.

Iraq has condemned the move of the Turkish troops, saying that its sovereignty and people’s security are the top priorities, according to ministry’s statement.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has also denounced the Turkish attack on civilians, but promised to investigate the issue and find out those responsible for initiating the clash.

Turkey carries out regular airstrikes in the border areas of Kurdistan Region, allegedly targeting the positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). However, the airstrikes have so far claimed the lives of dozens of civilians in the region.
