Erbil, Baghdad Initially Agreed on Joint Work in Disputed Areas: Official
ERBIL — Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry and Iraq’s Ministry of Defense have initially agreed on joint military operations across the disputed territories where security is still in peril.

Since 16th October 2017, when the Iraqi army and Iranian-backed militias of Hashd al-Shaabi attacked Kirkuk to push the Peshmerga forces out, the disputed territories are under the rule of the Iraqi government.

Secretary General of the Peshmerga Ministry, Jabbar Yawar, told BasNews on Sunday that they are expecting a delegation from Iraqi Defense Ministry now to hold detailed talks on a mechanism to allow joint operations between Peshmerga and Iraqi forces to encounter remaining Islamic State (IS) militants.

“Initially we have agreed on the return [of Peshmerga forces] and joint military and security work across all the areas where IS is still active,” Yawar explained.

“It includes areas from Khanaqin to Sinjar, those in Diyala, Salahaddin, Kirkuk, and Mosul provinces.”
