France Urges Russia to Protect Kurds in Syria
ERBIL — French President Emmanuel Macron urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to protect the Kurds in Syria after the recent developments at the wake of US withdrawal.

During a phone call with Putin on Wednesday, Macron emphasized on “the need to recognize the rights of local populations and to ensure that allied coalition forces, including Kurds, are preserved, given their ongoing commitment to the fight against Islamist terrorism”.

Macron explained that France’s top priority in Syria remains the battle against the Islamic State (IS), and that his country is committed to fight, as part of the international coalition, against the extremist group in Syria.

He also reiterated that a political solution within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolution 2254, is still the only option to end the Syrian crisis.
