Kurdistan commemorates the 26th anniversary of Anfal operations
Kurdistan Regional Government commemorated on Monday, the 26th anniversary of Anfal operations during which the forces of the former regime killed thousands of Kurdish citizens and destroyed thousands of villages in 1988.

Representative of the President of the Republic and his son , Qubad Talabani , the representative of Kurdistan Region’s President Massoud Barzani , Abdul al-Mohaimen Barzani , representatives of the presidency of the regional government and Kurdistan Parliament , in addition to representatives of blocs and political parties , the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal in the region government , Aram Ahmed and families of Anfal operations have participated in the ceremony, which was held in Anfal memorial in Chamchamal district affiliated to Sulaymaniyah province .

The ceremony began with a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs of the victims of Anfal operations and a speech by the Minister of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs in the government of the region , Aram Ahmed as he stressed the need to compensate the families of Anfal and trial those involved in this crime .

Ahmed appealed political parties and Kurdistan blocs to stop their campaigns today out in respect for the martyrs souls of Anfal operations .

Representative of the presidency of the region and representative of Anfal families have delivered speeches as one of Anfal victims demanded to postpone criticism .

The ceremony included putting wreaths at Anfal monument and the establishment of a number of art exhibitions and other activities that reflect the tragedies experienced by the Kurds under previous regimes.

It is worth mentioning that Anfal operations had been conducted by the former regime against the Kurds in 1988 killed about 182 000 Kurdish citizen and destroyed five thousand villages
