Iraq-Iran Agreement to Exchange Prisoners
An Iraq-Iran agreement of understanding to exchange convicts has been signed.



The agreement was signed by the Minister of Justice of both countries after detailed discussions to develop the mechanisms to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two, particularly in the areas of justice and legal.

"Iraq-Iran relation, which has ideological and historical background, is distinguished under the new political system in Iraq," Hassan al-Shammari, Minister of Justice said during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Mostafa Pour Mohammadi.

Shammari mentioned Iran's support in the process of democratic transition in Iraq.

"The agreement will be implemented immediately after the formation of joint committees," Shammari added.

The number of Iraqi prisoners in Iran is nearly 150 prisoners and the same approximate number of Iranian prisoners is in Iraq.
