Political Blocks Oppose Kurdish Language Law in Iraqi parliament
According to Iraqi constitution, Kurdish language must be the second official language after Arabic in Iraq. The laws however have not yet been enacted after several meetings as some political blocks inside the parliament frequently opposed the act.

Lawmakers in Iraqi Parliament reportedly met today to decide on Official Languages Act once again, yet representatives of some political blocks did not vote for Kurdish language as an official language despite the fact that the act is a part of Iraqi constitution.

This is not the first time since Iraqi law makers seat to vote on languages act in the Parliament. On July 22, 2013, and later in few weeks ago lawmakers in Iraqi Parliament were gathered to vote on Kurdish language as the second official language in Iraq. The meetings were all failed to overcome the problems and had no resolution to the language issue.

Language has been a site of struggle since the establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government in 1992. Since the formation of the Iraqi state, Kurds demanded the officialization of the Kurdish language and its equality with Arabic. This was a struggle between the Kurds and the state.
