International Delegation Joins Kurdistan Region for Vibrant Newroz Celebrations

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – A high-profile delegation of ambassadors, diplomatic envoys, and representatives from international organizations arrived in Erbil on Thursday to participate in the annual Newroz festivities, following an official invitation from Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. The delegation, accompanied by Iraqi Federal Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, was warmly welcomed at Erbil International Airport by the Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations and his deputy.

Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Barzani, the Head of the Foreign Relations Department expressed gratitude for the delegation’s presence, stating, “Your participation in the Newroz and Kurdish New Year festivities alongside the people of Kurdistan is deeply appreciated. We hope you enjoy your time in the Kurdistan Region.”

The visiting diplomats and officials are set to join KRG leaders in the annual Newroz celebrations, which symbolize resilience, renewal, and the rich cultural heritage of the Kurdish people. The festivities, centered in Erbil, are expected to draw thousands of attendees, including international tourists eager to witness the iconic Newroz fire-lighting ceremony in Akre, renowned as the heart of the celebrations.

Dual Celebrations: Newroz and Ramadan

This year, Newroz coincides closely with the holy month of Ramadan, prompting extensive preparations by Kurdistan Region authorities to accommodate the expected influx of visitors. While domestic tourism from southern and central Iraq has seen a decline due to Ramadan observances, international visitors remain undeterred. Tourists from Europe and beyond continue to flock to the region, drawn by its vibrant traditions and cultural attractions.

Ibrahim Abdulmajid, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region’s Tourism Board, highlighted the comprehensive efforts underway to ensure a seamless experience for visitors. “We are committed to offering visitors the best possible experience during their time in Kurdistan,” Abdulmajid told Kurdistan 24. Preparations are being coordinated across multiple provinces and autonomous administrations to cater to the dual celebrations.

A Symbol of Unity and Cultural Pride

The Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan are not only a testament to the region’s cultural richness but also a symbol of unity and resilience. The participation of international delegates underscores the global significance of the event and the Kurdistan Region’s growing prominence on the world stage.

As the festivities unfold, the Kurdistan Region continues to showcase its unique heritage, welcoming visitors from around the globe to experience the warmth, hospitality, and vibrant traditions of Newroz.
