President Nechirvan Barzani Celebrates International Women’s Day, Honors Women’s Contributions in Kurdistan and Beyond

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Nechirvan Barzani of the Kurdistan Region extended his heartfelt congratulations to women in Kurdistan, Iraq, and across the globe. In his message, President Barzani praised the resilience, bravery, and vital contributions of women in shaping a more just, liberated, and progressive society.

“Women in Kurdistan have historically played a pivotal role in political struggles, resistance movements, and all aspects of life,” President Barzani stated. “They have been at the forefront of the freedom movement in Kurdistan and continue to make significant strides in politics, economics, administration, and education. While we take pride in their achievements, we recognize that more must be done to protect their rights, eliminate violence and discrimination, and enhance their status in all sectors.”

President Barzani emphasized that safeguarding women’s rights and ensuring their equal participation in society is a collective responsibility. He called on individuals, families, educational institutions, and society as a whole to work together to build a Kurdistan that embodies equality, justice, and human rights.

“The creation of a democratic and progressive society is impossible without securing women’s rights and freedoms and strengthening their roles in every field,” he asserted.

On this significant day, President Barzani honored the memory of women who have made profound sacrifices and those who have faced violence and extremism. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a culture of coexistence, tolerance, and equality, vowing to work tirelessly to create a society where women are true partners in shaping the future.

“We pay tribute to all women who advocate for their rights and acknowledge the resilience of those who have endured violence,” he said. “I wish everyone a happy International Women’s Day.”

President Barzani’s message underscores the ongoing efforts to advance women’s rights in Kurdistan and highlights the region’s commitment to building a society where women can thrive as equal contributors to progress and development.
