Kurdistan Region Strengthens Educational Ties with Japan

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – In a significant step towards enhancing educational cooperation, the Kurdistan Region's Minister of Education, Alan Hama Saeed, highlighted the substantial support provided by Japanese organizations to the region's education sector. The minister made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Doztyba School in Erbil on Thursday.
Minister Saeed emphasized the pivotal role played by the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region in fostering stronger ties with Japan and leveraging its advanced educational expertise. "The Prime Minister has been instrumental in promoting coordination with Japan and utilizing its educational model to benefit our schools," Saeed stated.
The collaboration has already seen tangible results, with the experimental implementation of the Japanese educational system in seven schools in Erbil last November. Building on this success, the initiative is set to expand to ten additional schools this year, marking a significant step forward in the region's educational development.
Further underscoring the deepening partnership, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government met with a delegation from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on February 23, 2025. The meeting focused on exploring new avenues to strengthen educational and pedagogical cooperation between the two sides.
This ongoing collaboration reflects the Kurdistan Region's commitment to improving its education system by drawing on international best practices, with Japan emerging as a key partner in this transformative journey.
