Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday welcomed the Iraqi Parliament’s approval of an amendment to the federal general budget law, calling it a crucial step toward resolving financial issues for the Kurdistan Region.

“I welcome today’s vote by the Council of Representatives on the federal budget law amendment,” Prime Minister Barzani stated in a post on X.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to those who supported the amendment and acknowledged the efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) negotiating team. “I thank everyone who supported the amendment. I also thank the KRG negotiating team for their efforts to put in place a mechanism to resolve the salary issue.”

Barzani emphasized that this amendment is a step toward broader resolutions. “This positive step in amending the budget law will be the beginning of resolving all other disputes and ensuring the federal government’s commitment to providing the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region.”

The Iraqi Parliament’s decision on Sunday to amend the federal budget law is widely seen as a breakthrough that could facilitate the resumption of oil exports and establish a more stable financial mechanism for the Kurdistan Region.
