Kurdistan Region President Welcomes Iraqi Parliament’s Approval of Federal Budget Law
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Monday welcomed the Iraqi Parliament’s approval of the federal general budget law, calling it a positive step for the entire country, including the Kurdistan Region.
“We welcome the vote of the Council of Representatives on the approval of the federal general budget law and express our gratitude to the Council of Representatives and all those who participated in its preparation and approval,” Barzani said in a statement.
The Kurdistan Region’s president also extended his appreciation to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani for his efforts in addressing budget-related issues, particularly those concerning salaries and financial entitlements for the Kurdistan Region.
“From the beginning, he has sincerely and with a national spirit cooperated and assisted us,” Barzani noted.
Barzani described the budget’s approval as a “positive, hopeful, and beneficial step for all of Iraq,” expressing optimism that it would pave the way for resolving other outstanding issues, including a permanent solution for the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements.
“We will continue to strive to resolve all issues through dialogue and understanding,” he added.
The Iraqi Parliament’s decision on Sunday to amend the federal budget law is widely seen as a breakthrough that could facilitate the resumption of oil exports and establish a more stable financial mechanism for the Kurdistan Region.
