The report underscores the leadership of President Masoud Barzani in safeguarding the region and strengthening its role as a key ally of the United States. Since 2014, the partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States has been a cornerstone of regional security. While Washington has outlined plans to gradually reduce its military presence in Iraq, Forbes reports that U.S. forces are expected to remain in Erbil until at least September 2026 to support counter-ISIS operations in Syria.

The report also notes that the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 has complicated the region’s geopolitical landscape, reducing Baghdad’s push to expel U.S. forces.
