Thirteen civilians, identified as supporters of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), were injured on Sunday evening in a drone attack by Turkey-aligned armed factions targeting the Tishrin Dam east of Aleppo, a Kurdish human rights activist has confirmed.

Mahmoud Alo, a prominent Kurdish human rights activist, told BasNews that the injured civilians sustained varying degrees of injuries, with several reported to be in critical condition. According to Alo, the civilians had been dispatched by the PYD administration to support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their resistance against Turkey-aligned armed groups.

Criticism of PYD Administration

Alo criticized the PYD administration for endangering Kurdish civilians by deploying them to conflict zones. “The PYD administration is aware that these civilians will likely be targeted because the area is a military operations zone, yet they still send them there,” Alo said.

He accused the administration of disregarding civilian safety, stating, “The PYD administration cheapens the lives of Kurdish civilians, sending them into conflict areas, which has already led to the deaths and injuries of over 130 people.”

Alo called for immediate action, urging SDF leadership to prevent the involvement of civilians in combat zones. “Involving civilians in military operations constitutes a war crime,” he added.

Escalating Violence in Northern Syria

In addition to the drone attack near Tishrin Dam, Turkish warplanes launched airstrikes on SDF positions south of Kobani. The extent of casualties and damage from these airstrikes remains unclear.

Meanwhile, armed factions bombed the village of Al-Jammas, north of Ain Issa, resulting in the death of a young girl and injuries to two others, both from the Arab community.

The ongoing conflict in northern Syria continues to take a heavy toll on civilians, who are caught in the crossfire of military operations.

This latest escalation underscores the urgent need for measures to protect non-combatants and de-escalate tensions in the region.
