An Iraqi army officer, two soldiers, and an employee of the National Security Agency (NSA) were killed during clashes with Islamic State (IS) militants in the Tarmiya area, north of Baghdad, according to a security source.

The incident occurred during a joint operation conducted by the NSA and the 23rd Infantry Brigade in Tarmiya, a district known for ongoing IS activity. The operation, aimed at targeting militant hideouts, also resulted in the deaths of several IS fighters, according to local media reports.

Among the casualties was a regiment commander in the Iraqi army, who was killed in the line of duty.

In a related incident during the operation, an ammunition depot reportedly exploded, leading to the deaths of three additional soldiers and injuries to five others.

Tarmiya has been a persistent hotspot for IS activity, with frequent clashes between Iraqi security forces and militant groups. Despite significant territorial losses, IS continues to pose a security threat in parts of Iraq.

The Iraqi government has reiterated its commitment to eradicating IS remnants and ensuring stability in volatile regions such as Tarmiya.
