A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), led by Minister of Finance Awat Sheikh Janab, arrived in Baghdad on Sunday to address pressing issues surrounding employee salaries in the Kurdistan Region and proposed amendments to the 2025 federal budget law.

The visit comes amid ongoing challenges in ensuring timely payment of public sector salaries in the region. The KRG Ministry of Finance confirmed that the delegation's agenda includes discussions aimed at resolving these financial difficulties.

On Monday, the KRG delegation is scheduled to meet with Iraqi Finance Minister Taif Sami and other federal government representatives to advance the negotiations.

In addition to the salary-related talks, the delegation will focus on amendments to the federal budget for 2025, seeking solutions that reflect the financial needs and rights of the Kurdistan Region.

Earlier this month, the KRG Council of Ministers held a special session in Baghdad to deliberate on the salary crisis. During the meeting, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called for a re-evaluation of the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad.

“We will no longer accept the current treatment of the Kurdistan Region by the federal government,” Barzani stated, emphasizing the need for a more equitable approach to resolving the ongoing financial disputes.

The outcome of the ongoing negotiations is seen as critical to ensuring the stability of the region's public sector and the broader financial relationship between Erbil and Baghdad.
