Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Chairs Extraordinary KRG Meeting to Address Financial and Salary Crisis

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani chaired an extraordinary meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Saturday, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and several key ministers. The meeting focused on addressing the pressing salary and budget crisis, as well as the region's financial entitlements with the federal government in Baghdad.

The session aimed to present accurate data, figures, and documentation regarding the KRG’s financial status to its representatives in the federal government and the Iraqi Parliament. The discussion covered a range of critical issues to ensure the region’s rights are upheld.

The Minister of Finance and Economy delivered a detailed report on the financial performance of the Kurdistan Region for 2024, including the allocated schedule under the federal budget. Additionally, the acting Minister of Planning provided insights into the resumption of oil exports from the region.

Ministers from key departments, including Peshmerga Affairs, Labor and Social Affairs, Health, and Martyrs and Anfal Victims Affairs, highlighted that the federal government has not fully disbursed the funds allocated to their ministries. The meeting also reviewed the KRG’s compliance with its obligations to Baghdad, particularly the timely submission of employee salary lists.

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the need to enhance dialogue and coordination mechanisms with the federal government to resolve outstanding issues. He called for intensified efforts to ensure the region's financial rights and entitlements are met.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue discussions with Baghdad, aiming to address the salary crisis and secure the region's financial stability.
